Hello friends,
It has been some time since our last update, and we wanted to share where we are in the journey God has placed before us—particularly regarding our efforts to open a home for mothers in recovery and their children, along with other important ministry work currently underway.
This has been a long and difficult road. As many of you know, Harris Family Ministries previously operated out of my home for several years, during which time we served multiple women in recovery. The fruit of that work continues to speak for itself.
One of our graduate moms is now enrolled in college, pursuing her bachelor’s degree, earning a place on the Dean’s List, and living a happy, productive life. She has faced challenges along the way—as recovery is never linear—but with the support of her family and this ministry, she has persevered. We made a difference.
Research consistently shows that women who are able to remain with their children while participating in a structured recovery program experience significantly higher rates of success. Their focus shifts toward the responsibility of caring for their children, and the children themselves are far less likely to enter an addictive lifestyle when they receive counseling and are taught about the dangers and realities of addiction early on.
We are currently in active discussions with governing bodies within a local municipality and are closer than ever to purchasing and opening a home. While we have come close before and experienced setbacks, this time we are much further along in the process. We ask you to please keep us in your prayers—that God would make the way clear and bring this to completion.
As we move into this next phase of what is truly God’s ministry, we will need the help of many. Operating this home will require ongoing support for fuel, utilities, food, and everyday household necessities. What we are doing is vital to the survival and restoration of many lives.
We pray that you will be someone who says, “I want to help.”
Every day, we see heartbreaking reports of overdoses—sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, even grandparents lost to addiction. This has to stop. We want to be on the front lines, pulling people out of this lifestyle and helping save not only them, but the next generation—not for the glory of Harris Family Ministries, but for the glory of God.
While government efforts to stop fentanyl and other deadly drugs are visible, they are often not personal enough. Addiction affects millions of families, devastating communities and tearing apart homes. I know this pain personally. I lost a son to addiction, and the depth of that pain is beyond words. God is faithful and merciful—He lifts the weight of grief —but when you encounter another family suffering the same loss, the pain resurfaces. Only God can truly heal it.
That is why Harris Family Ministries will not give up. Our mission is to save as many families as possible from ever having to experience this kind of loss. Opening a home where we can directly impact lives and protect children from entering addiction is central to that mission.
While we await final municipal approvals, we continue to serve the community through Hurting Moms Mending Hearts classes at Christ Episcopal Church in Pottstown, PA. This powerful course was written by Cathy Taylor, a woman whom God delivered from addiction and called into ministry. The program teaches mothers how to navigate challenging family situations by surrendering control to God rather than carrying the burden alone.
We are also offering a Self-Help class written by my daughter, Valerie Jackson, and will be hosting Yielding Hearts, the continuation of Hurting Moms Mending Hearts. In addition, we will be offering healing classes led by Pastor Sally Super. These programs will continue even after the home opens, allowing us to reach women both inside and outside the residence.
On June 6th and 7th, we will host a Women’s Conference at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 316 High Street, Pottstown, PA. The theme is “Breaking Chains: Healing & Deliverance.” Our prayer is that women leave healed—physically, spiritually, and emotionally—and truly free. For more information or to register, please visit www.harrisfamilyministries.org. We would love for you to join us.
Opening this home will be a major undertaking, and sustaining it will require faithful financial partners. We sincerely pray that you will be one of those who says, “I am going to help.”
Thank you for taking the time to learn about what God is doing through Harris Family Ministries. On behalf of the mothers and families we serve, thank you for your prayers, support, and belief in this mission.
